The crossover between text and digital production
My writing practice has always been interested in the crossover between text and multimedia, and the possibilities for content in general. As commissioning editor of OnScreen (film and digital media) at RealTime journal, I wrote a column called WriteSites, which focused on digital writing, mainly hypertext. A complete list of hypertext and online writing is available here as part of RealTime‘s MediaArt archive.
I continue to monitor trends. In a recent issue of Newswrite (the magazine I edit for the NSW Writers’ Centre), I explored the world of literary apps, and how the iPad can be of use (both practically and as inspiration) for writers.
I look forward to building a platform on the web that encourages writers to think about their own process and how they go about constructing fictional narrative out of various avenues of research – in a way that incorporates audio, experimental writing, documentary and visual arts.
